Some of the UK’s most talented young hip hop dancers are appealing for money to help them compete in future dance tournaments.

Youngsters at KC’s School of Dance train at Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre, Oxford, and have already raised more than £500 through a street performance in Cowley and bag-packing at Sainsbury’s at Heyford Hill.

Next month, the boppers and their parents will host a night of spectacular dance, song and fun activities which they hope will showcase the talent of young people in Blackbird Leys and Rose Hill.

They joined their teacher Kelly Chandler in appealing for as much support as possible for the event.

Ms Chandler said: "The dancers are all from Rose Hill, Blackbird Leys and Greater Leys, and I feel people from the community should support people like these that are doing really well.

"There should be a huge amount of pride in them."

Proceeds from the event will be split between the cost of flying four children and their mums to the European Hip Hop and Street Dance Championships in Denmark, and to provide a kitty for future events.

Caroline De Silva, from Coriander Way, Greater Leys, whose 13-year-old son Levon is the UK’s top under-16 solo hip hop dancer, said: "The children put everything into it. They love what they do. They have earned every penny which has been donated — and they help raise awareness that kids round here are not all bad."

St Gregory the Great pupil Levon said: "Dancing is really important to me because I want to make it my career."

The fundraising night will be held on Saturday, October 4, at the Holy Family Church, in Cuddesdon Way, Blackbird Leys. Send an email to cherone3@hotmail.com for details.
