Dr Robert Chaplin has shown a similar spirit of selflessness that he should be commended for.
He and a colleague were stabbed by mental health patient Essam Karrar in Blackbird Leys earlier this year and Dr Chaplin's injuries were life-threatening.
It was a horrific incident and both men would be excused for any lingering trauma.
But Oxford Crown Court was told yesterday that not only has Dr Chaplin forgiven Karrar but, having been his doctor for several years, he would also like to continue being involved in his treatment.
That is true public service and Judge Patrick Eccles was correct when he said Dr Chaplin and his colleagues were heroes.
