Sir — I find it quite amazing that Oxfordshire County Council wants to waste money, destroy such a valuable asset as Witney's front garden and encroach on the Windrush floodplain in order to build a road that is not needed.
The simple answer is to provide an eastbound exit and a westbound access to the A40, at the A40/B4022 junction.
After all, was not the bypass built in the first place to avoid traffic going through the centre of Witney.
Abingdon has a similar problem anyone wanting to go south or exit north has to use the Abingdon South junction of the A34, thus choking the centre of Abingdon and surrounding roads with unnecessary traffic.
