This Thursday, November 2nd, is No More Landmines Day.

The No More Landmines campaign is the international citizenship campaign of the National Union of Teachers. Specially designed free resources are available. Phone 020 7471 5580, or e-mail: info@landmines.org.uk

THERE ARE ABOUT 60 - 70 MILLION UNEXPLODED LANDMINES IN MORE THAN 90 COUNTRIES.

LANDMINES KILL OR INJURE A CIVILIAN EVERY 30 MINUTES.

ABOUT ONE THIRD OF ALL LANDMINE CASUALTIES ARE CHILDREN.

I do NOT intend to use this blog to demand that people give money to good causes, but I make no apology for making this particular case an exception.

I had a letter this morning from Adopt-A-Minefield - the cause which the well-known ex-couple Paul & Heather have so strongly supported.

It only costs about £1 to clear a square metre of minefield, about £50 to help a child walk again.

I realise that it's a crude question, but if there were dangerous landmines lying around in this country, how long would they be allowed to sit there?

Meanwhile generations of people in other communities continue to die and suffer.
