And so for those of you who haven’t been paying attention will not know that the Oxfordshire Drama Network (ODN) festival is to be held in the Unicorn Theatre Abingdon 2nd -7th June this year.
We are entering two plays, ‘Lifelines’ by Amy Rosenthal which is on the Monday night and ‘Please don’t tell’ by Les Clarke to be staged on the Thursday. This second tale is about friendship, blackmail, revenge and love within a group of teenage friends and is the first time our new youth team have acted with the group and I wish them well.
Now for the keen types among you and for those who cannot wait for the ODN festival (2nd-7th June Unicorn Theatre Abingdon, seats in all parts at the time of writing-remember?) we are putting on our two plays at Southmoor village hall 7.30pm Tuesday 27th May. For just £3 on the door you can preview the entries ahead of the adjudicator and the World’s press. A great night out.
Now what else has been happening? I of course have celebrating today being the day in 1908 when the Lusitania set the record for the westbound crossing of the Atlantic in 20 hours and 12 minutes, and also wondering why round pizzas come in square boxes but apart from that I have been assembling our team for the ODN Quiz on Friday night. We are fielding two teams again this year and hopes are high for a good result.
Full results next time. (Unless we do badly).
The search will soon be on for our next play. The ladies on the top table who now run the group after a coup d’etat that would have been admired by Fidel Castro are casting their net far and wide to bring in a suitable production worthy of following on from Ladies’ Day. Watch this space.
Finally, for the last two years and until the end of this month I have been driving the Faringdon Community Bus on a Friday morning. Last week this elderly guy got on and I naturally asked him how he was.
“Ah yes” he says, “I’m on Viagra yer know”
“Oh yes” says I.
“Yes” he says “I put it in me tea”
“Oh yes” says I again.
“Yeah” he continues, “It doesn’t do anything for my sex life, but it stops me biscuits going soggy!”
You couldn’t make it up.
