Well, I managed to fit in an extra rest yesterday having not made it to the University Parks for a quick blast.
My wife had an unfortunate incident with our car and I had to go home instead of running. Fortunately no-one was badly injured but it did force me not to run for a day which, if you read this blog yesterday, was a blessing as I was knackered with a capital 'blimey I'm pooped'.
It has meant that I am getting extra rest for the Town and Gown run in Oxford on Sunday. This is a great event as it is a relatively flat course and tours the dreaming spires very nicely.
I also use it a yardstick to see how much fitter I am since giving up smoking.
Thus far I have done 53:45 as a smoker and last year (two years on) managed 43:06, which is a good improvement.
I have no idea what to aim for this year, especially as the real aim in traithlon fitness. I will be swimming Friday night and Saturday morning so I won't be in the prime of fitness.
Still I would hope to dip under 43 for the first time.
As I have entered the Olympic distance at the London Triathlon, I will have to run this distance having already swum 1,500 metres and cycles 40km - should be interesting!
