Well the European Champs couldn't really have gone much better! I won my age group by almost 10minutes and in doing so posted the fastest female age group time of the day, which officially makes me the fastest amateur female triathlete in Europe - not bad eh?!
I guess the thing I'm most chuffed with are my swim and run times. It was the first time I'd cracked the 20-minute barrier for the 1500m swim and my fastest ever 10k run - 37.53. Of course, as many people have enjoyed telling me (Dickie and Ozzer!), the tape measure might not have been accurate, but even if this is the case (and obviously I like to think it isn't!), I know that my level of perceived exertion (a subjective feeling a lot of sports science boffins place importance on) wasn't right up there so it's really good to know that perhaps there's a little bit more from where that Portugal performance came from. We can only hope...
With the Worlds now only around the corner the next few weeks are pretty crucial. But the thing I love about triathlon more than anything, though, is that when you're fit, you're very very fit - and right now I feel like I'm on top form.
A massive thank you to John Gibbons and Andrew Dubowski at Peak Sporting Performance in Iffley Road. As anyone who's ever done a lot of high intensity training will know, there's a very fine line between being on top form and being injured, but so far so good, Gibbo and Ski have been stars at keeping me out of the injury chair. Thanks guys! Cheers to CP too, the turbos and treaders are obviously working!
