Well a little natural break there. Sorry if you missed me but I’ve had a few days in the sun you know. By golly they can’t touch you for it but I bet this government will try.
The memory of the April play is already fading and rehearsals are galloping along for our entries into the ODN festival. Do I have to go through it all again………?
I thought as much. Right. The ODN festival is held in the Unicorn Theatre Abingdon 2nd -7th June. Two or three plays from the local amateur drama groups are staged each night at 7.30 and it is a great night I promise you. For those of you unfamiliar with the theatre it is small, very old and very atmospheric. Well worth a visit on a balmy early summer evening.
Don’t forget we are previewing our entries in the village hall on May 27th May. Full details next week.
Now, our AGM was last night and it’s a case of all change for Crewe. The crew in this case being the executive offices of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. Well I lied about the secretary that’s still the divine Emily Joyce but our Chairman-woman-person whatever is the talented Kate Belcher. Congratulations to Kate. Treasurer is the lovely Andrea Spencer, currently bewildered of this parish, but she will soon get the hang of it I’m sure.
So our top table now resembles Bananarama but it’s good to get some new blood and ideas.
The supporting cast of committee members are Sally and Michael (past Chairman-and very well done Mike) Lacey, Linda Hudson, Rob Hall, Susi Dalton and moi…
Unfortunately the social side of the group of which I am so passionate looks like it’s bit the dust but hey ho there yer go….
Now for those of you who have been paying attention will know that today marks then 100th anniversary of the opening of the Franco-British Exhibition at Shepherd’s Bush in London. Others will realise that the ODN quiz is next week at Wolvercote and our teams are busy swatting for the big night by watching Eggheads on a nightly basis.
The results as they come in I promise….
I see Faringdon Drama Group are putting on Outside Edge this week. A brilliant play by Richard Harris. We have staged this twice and it’s a riot. A really good, well-written and highly perceptive piece and highly recommended in the Am Dram Man’s book of ‘B****r I wish I had seen that.’
Finally a little story I heard this week…perfectly true.
My wife and I were sitting at a table at my school reunion, and I
kept staring at a drunken woman swigging her drink, as she sat alone nearby.
My wife asks, 'Do you know her?'
'Yes,' I sighed. 'She's my old girlfriend. I understand she started
drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she
hasn't been sober since.'
'My God!' says my wife. 'Who would think a person could go on
celebrating that long?'
Charming.
