So, May is here all of a sudden and with it comes a month of drama at the Playhouse. All different in their own ways, we kick off next week with a Northern Stage production A Doll’s House . This particular take on the original Ibsen text is re-set in the 1950’s and has been pitched as the original Desperate Housewives . It has opened to rave reviews from the national papers despite coming in at a lengthy 3hours (approx). However, if you came to the Playhouse for the last Northern Stage production we had in March (Our Friends In The North) this one should be a walk in the park! I am particularly looking forward to it as it was something I studied at A-level, so I am sure it will stir up lots of memories.

Next we have Educating Agnes by renowned Scottish theatre company Theatre Babel. A new version of Moliere’s School For Wives , this production is all in rhyme and is bought to us by one of Scotland’s greatest living dramatists – Liz Lochhead.

Close behind Agnes is London Assurance from our friends at the Windmill Theatre. A madcap, farcical period drama with plenty of silly names (Lady Gay Spanker being one of my particular favourites!). This one is guaranteed to be great for a laugh and comes to us from upcoming director Nikolai Foster.

Bringing May to a close the Playhouse have student company Oak Jones productions in with their own take on the controversial Spring Awakening .

Last week the staff at Oxford Playhouse all got together for one of our monthly staff meetings. This time around our new director, Michelle Dickson, presented us with some of her ideas for the future of the Playhouse. Without giving too much away at this early stage it is safe to say there is going to be a lot to look forward to from the Playhouse in the next year and beyond – and some if it might just surprise you!

On that note … have a good bank holiday!
