The Chelsea scenario is an interesting one.
Replacing Jose Mourinho was an impossible job for anyone - and I mean absolutely anyone.
Whoever was appointed the next Chelsea manager was also going to be living in his shadow, and the fans would never accept them.
However, you have to feel a certain sympathy for Avram Grant.
Although he looks like he should be sat in front of the TV with a pipe and slippers – and on Monday night looked like he was going to a funeral (maybe his own) – no-one can despute that Grant has actually done a good job.
But it seems that after Emile Heskey's late equaliser, he will be looking for a new job come the summer.
He still has the Champions League as a last resort, but it seems some people are never happy.
There is no doubt that he is in a job that is above his capabilities, but to be sacked with the sort of record that he has as manager shows that these days it's politics, not results, that lead to decisions.
Just ask Rafa Benitez . . .
