So here I am writing this, suffering from Saturday night fever reflecting on 2007 as regards the Kingston Bagpuize Drama Group. How sad is that?
The year started off with the annual dinner being held at the White Hart in Fyfield, regular readers will no doubt remember my culinary review of the feast.
This was quickly followed by rehearsals starting for our spring production of The Collector by Mark Healy. The play was well received and another success for KBDG. It also marked the directing debut of a new member; we’ll call him Robert, who has come up with numerous ideas for our future productions and events taking us up until the year 2015 I believe. Whoa! Slow down there cowboy, sit a while and let yer saddle cool…
Then came the festival plays. The Oxfordshire Drama Network puts on a festival each year, the first week of June at the Unicorn Theatre in Abingdon and it really is a great week.
This year we entered two one act plays, Mediocrity by Anton Robert Krueger and Canary Cage by Diana Raffle. Both went down well with the adjudicator and Canary Cage was asked back on the Saturday night. Second year running we have been asked back please note.
In June we had a barbecue to mark on of our number moving to sunnier parts (Fleet can be very nice this time of year). Very sad to see Joan move out of the village and indeed the drama group.
We fielded two teams in the ODN quiz in May and we were all set to have a stall at the village fete but it was rained off!
Of course the most recent activity drama wise has been the last play, Popcorn by Ben Elton, in November.
I should also mention here we did put on a children’s workshop for the younger element around these parts and this always goes down well with the kiddies and parents alike.
Unfortunately the most activity on the social side has been cancellations. The Treasure Hunt was cancelled, the Weekend away was cancelled also, and of course the fete.
So there you have it, twelve months frenzied action in Kingston Bagpuize Drama Group in a few words.
One of my readers (no, no not old Chuffer) has asked for more words of wisdom from my treasured guide to Zen. So hear this: - Never test the depth of the water with both feet and don’t forget a journey of a thousand miles starts with a broken fan belt and a flat tyre.
