It has been a busy couple of weeks here at the Playhouse and sometimes it is a good idea to just take a step back, and reflect. I think that is why writing a blog, such as this, can be so helpful, however, sometimes it does make you think that maybe you are going a bit mad!
Take these last couple of weeks for instance – it seems perfectly normal to me that I spent a large part of last Tuesday in a room with two grown men dressed in panto Dame’s outfits, talking, flirting and arguing with each other in exaggerated tones whilst being filmed at various different angles. Every now and again the filming would stop and the two Dames would miraculously switch their personalities to discuss the best ways to film the next section of dialogue – it was a bit like experiencing some sort of transgender, hysterically funny, Jekyl and Hyde characters … but it’s all in the day of the life of the theatre d’harling!

(p.s. Thanks to Jeremy Smith for getting into the panto spirit!)
That same day our beautiful panto Dame (Simon Green ) had a press photocall in the Playhouse foyer. We had him pose behind the Box Office whilst the photographers snapped away and all of a sudden, as if by magic, two non-English speaking tourists appeared and started to mussel in on the action. It was really quite bizarre – as much as I tried to explain to them that what was happening was a professional photo shoot it didn’t seem to register. The pair were taking turns to jump in front of Simon whilst the other took a quick snap! Simon was brilliant though and like a true professional he played up to the camera and gave the tourists a great picture for their holiday album.
Say Cheese!!
