Our rehearsals for ‘Pretzels for Dinner’ continue. The production is on November 23rd, 24th and 25th in the village hall.
The set is built and looks great, the words and moves are there and it’s coming together nicely. Each Tuesday is club night and those not directly involved with the current production engage in play reading sessions partly with a view to looking for a suitable future play or just for fun. Last week we read ‘The Merchant of Venice’ whether we put any Shakespeare on is one thing but it certainly is a world away from ’Cash on Delivery’ a farce by Michael Cooney we presented in April.
So, the dress rehearsal is approaching and some nerves are beginning to show which is standard procedure about this time. Physical violence has not materialised however. The sound, lighting and props are sorted and tickets are on sale. Rehearsals have been in progress since the beginning of September twice a week, I don’t believe most people have any idea have much work goes in to putting on a play. However it’s our choice we spend our leisure time this way so no complaints.
The social side of the group is very active and our skittles night approaches. This year so far we have had a treasure hunt, barbecue, annual dinner, weekend away, theatre visit and a jazz boat cruise. Frankly it’s a wonder we have time to put plays on!
On a broader note we are very well catered for around Oxford for the theatre lover. A summer evening visit to the Watermill near Newbury is a night to remember, a fabulous setting and only half an hour away. Bath, Cheltenham, Windsor, all have great theatres, all near at hand. Our own Oxford Playhouse is of course the first choice but personally I find their menu of fare rarely to my taste.
