Randolph hotel was born in 1864, neo gothic style. The hotel was not named after Randolph Churchill, but from the Randolph Gallery, part of the new Ashmolean Museum. This gallery was built as a result of a £1000 benefaction left by Dr Francis Randolph, Principal of St Albans Hall (part of Merton College since 1882). He died in 1896. On 23 April 1864 a builder stated that the Randolph Hotel had been "designed with a view of making it a first class hotel, with several suites of rooms which will possess all the comfort and the quietude of private dwellings". Now with all that out of the way, I asked myself what beautiful and ugly events must have gone on from the onset, if only the walls could talk, I tried, my staff thought I had gone bonkers. So if you are still with me we have to ride on the river "Imagination". Elegant ladies, beautiful gowns, "no not mini skirts that comes later", strawling down the stairs into the lounge for a glass of champagne or sherry, there would have not been any cocktails around, the gentlemen, well, dressed like gentlemen, not in shorts like nowdays, you will get the marching orders from me, mini skirts anytime but then men dont look good in mini skirts. Then there must have been the odd scandouls affairs hey!! things are getting spicy now, I will let you know of any if the walls start talking. Back on the river "Now", we still get the beautiful ladies, we will talk about men in the next century, I am very lucky to work in the restaurant, it is situated spot on looking on the street, passing by pretty girls young and old from different nationalities, as we say in Italian "VIVA LA DONNA" hail the woman, I have 16 working with me. We are coming to the time of parties, I shall let you know about them in due course. Back to my Grand Old Lady still beautiful and sexy especialy the restaurant my mistress.
Ciao, Ciao.
