A restaurant owner has donated more than £28,000 raised through his businesses over the last six years to an Oxford children's hospice.
Jon Ellse, who owns The Perch in Binsey and Mamma Mia in Summertown and Jericho, raised the money by inviting his customers to add £1 to their table bill at Christmas.
Mr Ellse then matched the donations made by customers each year, doubling the amount donated.
He and his family visited Helen & Douglas House on November 11 to have a tour of the hospice and receive a fundraising award for the £28,608.40 they have raised since 2019.
Mr Ellse said: "I found the visit to the hospice to be incredibly informative and an excellent reminder of why we fundraise for Helen & Douglas House.
"Although we have fundraised for some years for this wonderful local charity, I was unaware of the truly holistic approach and extent of the care provided.
"Our recent visit to Helen & Douglas House revealed a remarkable team that embodies compassion and professionalism. I found our visit to be incredibly moving and inspiring.
"It was and continues to be an absolute pleasure to support Helen & Douglas House."
Andrea Baganz-Pritchard from Helen & Douglas House added: "Without amazing supporters like this we simply wouldn’t be able to offer the vital support and care to so many local children with life-shortening conditions and their families."
