A man died at an Oxford hospital after he developed complications following a bone marrow transplant, an inquest opening heard.

Roland Emeke Osakwe died on Monday, November 18 at the Churchill Hospital in Headington.

An inquest was opened into the 50-year-old's death by area coroner Nicholas Graham at Oxford Coroner's Court on Monday, November 25. 

Mr Osakwe was a healthcare assistant who resided at Lanner Walk, Eaglestone, Buckinghamshire.

The court heard that he underwent a bone marrow transplant, but developed complications following the procedure and his condition deteriorated.

A medical cause of death has been given as respiratory failure, chest infection, graft versus host disease (when bone marrow reacts against the person having the transplant), bone marrow transplant for chronic myeloid leukaemia, and type two diabetes.

A full inquest will now be held at Oxford Coroner's Court on April 2 next year and is scheduled to take place at 10am.
