A popular running club has announced its Saturday event in Oxfordshire will be cancelled as severe flooding has made the course impassable.

Abingdon Parkrun is a free, popular weekly timed 5k walk, jog or run which starts at 9am every Saturday from Rye Farm Meadow, Abingdon.

It comes as the latest event to be cancelled since flooding from the aftermath of Storm Bert has swept the county

Organiser Lucy said in a statement: "It won't be a surprise if you've been anywhere near the parkrun course recently, but we have cancelled the event on 30th November.

"There is severe flooding on the course. Please check for other cancellations before you head to an alternative parkrun."

The Abingdon run is one of 36 others around the country to be cancelled this Saturday, November 30, most of them due to damage from the flooding or weather.

The Witney club is one of them, cancelling its Saturday event due to mud and water on the course making it unsafe.

Organisers said: "We checked the course this afternoon and unfortunately there is sufficient mud and water in parts for it to be unsafe.

"We don’t want any injuries or too much ground damage and so we are cancelling.

"Fingers crossed for some drier weather ahead of next week’s event."

Oxfordshire Parkruns often face poor weather conditions over the winter months, with multiple cancellations affecting some of the more flood-prone courses.
