An arts centre in an Oxfordshire town will reopen next week after flooding forced it to close and cancel performances.

The Mill Arts Centre in Banbury saw floodwater reach halfway up its front door on Monday as floods swept the area in the aftermath of Storm Bert.

Now, the centre has announced that minimal damage was caused and it will be reopening for shows from next week.

A spokesperson for The Mill said: "We're pleased to share that the cleaning and drying process is well underway and we are looking forward to re-opening next week.

"We're delighted that we're on track for performances to take place back at The Mill from Thursday, December 5 when our Christmas production of The Gruffalo opens."

The culture hub said the St Agnes Fountain performance on Tuesday, December 3 will be relocated to St Mary's Church in Banbury, and additional seats have been released for the previously sold-out show.

All classes and workshops will take place at The Mill as normal from Monday, December 2, but the Cafe Bar will remain closed to finish the clean-up process.

Although this is the second time the centre has had to close this year due to flooding, extensive renovations completed after the first incident to improve the heritage building's resilience to water damage made this quick reopening possible.
