A Nisa store in Oxfordshire requires “major improvement” following a damning hygiene inspection.
Nisa Local on Orchard Way in Banbury was visited by Cherwell District Council’s Environmental Health team on Thursday, October 24.
Inspectors found the shop to be in need of “major improvement” and consequently the store was handed a shocking one-out-of-five food hygiene rating.
The key issue that the report identified was with Nisa Local’s management of food safety which was deemed to require “major improvement”.

This refers to having a system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat and if there is evidence that staff know about food safety.
It also refers to whether or not the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
Similarly, the report stated that Nisa Local’s hygienic handling of food requires “necessary” improvement.
This regards the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of the food stored and sold onsite.

Despite the other glaring problems, the inspector adjudged the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building to be of a “good” standard.
This includes having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.
Nisa Local is a convenience store franchise so the Orchard Way store has been directly contacted for comment on the food hygiene rating.
