Weddings in an Oxfordshire town will take place in a new venue with a bigger ceremony room from this weekend.

Oxfordshire County Council's registration service is relocating from Bodicote House, meaning weddings and civil partnerships will take place in Banbury Town Hall from this Sunday (December 1).

The new ceremony room is larger than the county council’s other ceremony rooms across the county and will be able to hold up to 80 guests.

Banbury Town Hal, which is in the town centre near Castle Quay, is a Victorian grade II listed building and is one of seven council-run ceremony rooms.

It is also one of almost 100 approved wedding venues across the county.

The service will also be moving day to day activities, including registering births and deaths, and giving notice of marriage or civil partnership, to Samuelson House in Banbury.

Neil Fawcett, Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet member for community services, said: “Our registration services touch the lives of people at milestone moments in their lives and is an important component of what we deliver at the county council.

“With the sale of Bodicote House, we have been looking for alternative locations for both our registration service, and ceremonies in Banbury.

“It’s great news that we’ve been able to secure Banbury Town Hall, which is an ideal central location for Banbury residents, and a lovely venue.”
