A care home requires 'major improvement' following an embarrassing hygiene inspection.
Banbury Heights Nursing Home on Old Parr Road in Banbury is a family-run home “providing high-quality care” since 2003 according to the business’ website.
The location was visited by Cherwell District Council’s Environmental Health team on Tuesday, October 15.
Inspectors were left far from impressed with what they found and handed the business a one-out-of-five food hygiene rating stating that 'major improvement' was necessary.

One key issue at the care home was the management of food safety which specifically required 'major improvement'.
This refers to having a system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat and if there is evidence that staff know about food safety.
It also concerns whether the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
Another main concern was the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building where improvement was deemed 'necessary'.
This relates to having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.

Despite the other key problems, the home’s hygienic handling of food, which includes the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage, was rated as 'generally satisfactory'.
