Flood warnings and alerts have been issued for areas in Oxfordshire due to heavy rainfall from Storm Bert.

The areas include Ginge Brook between Steventon and Sutton Courtenay, the River Dene at Walton, the River Evenlode at Milton under Wychwood, the River Great Ouse, and the River Stour at Mitford Bridge across the border in Shipston-on-Stour.

These more severe warnings mean flooding is “expected” in those locations, affecting property and roads.

Advice issued with the flood warnings says: “Please activate any property flood protection products you may have, such as flood barriers and air brick covers and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

“Take care on riverside roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. Do not drive through floodwater.

“Move possessions and valuables off the ground or to safety.”

The flood warning service says its staff are liaising with councils and emergency services, and actively checking water levels and rainfall.
