A warning about rises in river levels and potential flooding has been issued for the county amid heavy rainfall forecasts.

Oxfordshire County Council has published guidance for people across the county as Storm Bert hits the UK and yellow weather warnings have been put in place.

It said river levels are predicted to rise in the coming days due to rainfall associated with the storm, and householders should stay informed, prepare for severe weather events, and follow guidance.

It wrote: "Oxfordshire County Council has produced a flooding toolkit, which provides advice and support for residents and businesses, including information on preparing for flooding.

"If you live in an area of flood risk there are a number of flood protection measures you can take as a homeowner, business and together as a community."

The council advised that people stay up to date with Environment Agency warnings and to monitor rainfall, river levels, and weather warnings from the Met Office.

It also reiterated the importance of staying safe should flooding occur, including by not entering flood water on foot or driving.
