Concerts weren’t the only way members of the City of Oxford Silver Band celebrated 100 years of music in 1987.
The Straw Hat bakery in Summertown produced a special cake to mark the occasion.
Julie Rayworth, 14, with her tenor horn, and Catherine Pancott, 15, cornet, are seen with the centenary delicacy.

The band marked the anniversary with a series of concerts and appearances in national and regional competitions.
When it was formed, the ensemble was known as Headington Silver Band and changed its title to Oxford in 1952.
The centenary celebrations included concerts at the Sheldonian Theatre and Oxford Playhouse, recording a long-playing record and wearing new uniforms.
