A Christmas lights switch-on event in an Oxfordshire town has had to be postponed by organisers due to weather warnings of Storm Bert.

The annual Beames family lights switch-on is a popular event in Chapel Way, Wantage, which has been postponed from this weekend to November 30.

It's one of several events disrupted by this weekend's weather as a yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for heavy rain and possible flooding in Oxford

Organised by Natasha Beames, the Christmas event has about 300 visitors each year and features an estimated 30,000 bulbs in the light display.

Ms Beames said: "Unfortunately with Storm Bert washing through us on Saturday, we are having to postpone our light switch on by one week.

"The safety of Santa, the reindeer, and our followers is paramount, and we hope to see you all next weekend instead

"It's obviously frustrating that we've had to delay for a week, but the safety of the public is more important. I just hope it doesn't have a knock-on effect for the charity fundraising."

The event includes Christmas food and drinks, a magic show from "Uncle Wiggy", and a gift from Father Christmas for every child.

It's free to attend but donations are welcome. Money raised goes to Team Mikayla Charity which grants wishes to children fighting cancer, inspired by founder Mikayla, 18, who has been battling brain cancer since she was four years old.
