A Didcot-based community group marked a decade of cultural enrichment with a grand Diwali celebration.
Indians in Didcot (IID) celebrated their tenth anniversary with an annual Diwali Dinner and Dance event at Didcot Civic Hall on Saturday, November 16.
The Deputy Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Mrs. Elizabeth Paris, attended as the chief guest.
Mrs. Paris, representing the monarchy, expressed her gratitude to IID founders Dr. Sneha Anand and Mr. Nitish Anand for their 'warmth and kindness' at the Diwali celebration.
She praised the community's achievement in sustaining itself for ten years, even through the pandemic, and applauded the efforts of the volunteers.
In line with Diwali's spiritual significance, the event began with Hindu prayers.
The UK and Indian national anthems were sung, symbolising the mutual respect between the two nations.
The night was filled with cultural performances that showcased the traditions of the Indian diaspora.
Around 180 attendees enjoyed the diverse flavours of a three-course Indian dinner.
The event was a testament to the strong bonds that define IID community.
IID, a not-for-profit organisation, continues to promote cultural awareness and community engagement in Didcot and Oxfordshire.
The event was organised by a committee that has seen the group grow from two families to over 850 members.
Their commitment to cultural pride has been key to the group’s success.
