Christmas preparations are well underway by volunteers at a heritage railway station in south Oxfordshire.

Cholsey and Wallingford Railway, a heritage line which hosts tourist train rides, is preparing for its popular Santa Express experience.

Michael Palfrey, railway chair, said: “Our volunteers have been working hard through the year on numerous projects including a complete renovation of one of our heritage coaches, which means we can provide more tickets than previous years.”

The volunteer-run organisation will be running the festive train from November 23 – December 23 this year and is expecting about 4,000 visitors over the busy period.

Head of decorations Natalie said: “It’s an amazing time of year and we love welcoming children young and old on board for a trip to see Santa”.
