Jeremy Corbyn spoke about Oxford University during an appearance in the city.

The former Labour Party leader was speaking at Blackwell’s Books on Broad Street on Saturday evening about his new book along with Lindsey German.

While speaking at the event which was limited to 90m spaces, Mr Corbyn also spoke about the University of Oxford.

This was in response to protests outside Oxford Union over the choice of speakers in a debate about Kashmir, claimed to be “terrorists” by demonstrators.

Concerns were raised about the debate and speakers Muzzammil Ayyub Thakur and Zafar Khan while Thames Valley Police officers attended the demonstration on Thursday night.

“University should be a place for the cross-fertilisation of ideas,” he said.

“You should be able to discuss with people that you profoundly disagree with why you think what you do.

“That surely is part of what the university experience should be about and part of what our society should be about, the right to protest.”
