A bank has closed for nearly three weeks for repairs after a customer was reportedly injured following a trip on the floor.

Lloyds Bank at Carfax in Oxford city centre has been closed for nearly a week and might not reopen until November 25.

A notice on the door explains this due to "an incident".

Customers Tim and Heather King tried to go to the branch on Tuesday (November 5) and again on Saturday (November 9).

They said some of those queuing outside had come from as far as Abingdon as the Lloyds branch there closed down in March.

Mr King said: "We rang the branch number and at first they had no knowledge, then after looking into it said a customer had fallen and was injured due to a problem with the floor.

"This is the main Lloyds branch in Oxford, people are coming from afar to access it. This problem should be dealt with more urgently.

"And why haven't they contacted every account holder in the Oxford area to let them know?"

Lloyds Bank said they were aware of an incident and closed the branch so they can make some repairs as the safety of its customers and colleagues is a top priority.

A Lloyds spokesperson said: “Our Carfax branch is temporarily closed while we carry out some repairs and we hope to reopen as soon as possible."

The nearest alternative branch is in Cowley, and customers can continue to use other ways of banking, including through the mobile app, online and over the phone.

The nearby Post Office on St Aldates offers personal and business customers everyday banking services, access to cash, paying in of cheques, and more.
