A parrot has joined a range of animals which decorate Kidlington's streets as part of the village's zoo walking routes.

The new trail, the longest in Kidlington, is marked out by purple claw prints and covers 8.5 km, including some of Kidlington's outer areas, such as Garden City, Stratfield Brake, and Gosford.

The parrot mascot was chosen and named by local children following a competition at Kidlington Library.

Councillor Rob Pattenden, portfolio holder for healthy communities, said: "The zoo trails we have lining the paths across Kidlington are extremely popular with children and adults alike.

"They provide a brilliant way for families to get out of the house, into the fresh air, and explore the village together.

"Walking is a brilliant and easy way to get more active. A brisk walk each day can count towards the recommended 150 minutes of weekly exercise.

The new trail joins the five existing routes that are marked out by footprints and activities, such as hopscotch, jumping pads, and running challenges.

The project has been funded by Cherwell District Council's Rural England Prosperity Fund allocation.
