Oxford East's MP, Anneliese Dodds, spoke about the importance of supported living schemes in Oxfordshire as she was given a tour of one in Cowley.

Ms Dodds visited not-for-profit housing group Orbit's Garden House scheme, which is run in partnership with mental health charity Oxfordshire Mind.

The scheme is designed to support people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or mental health needs, helping them to live as independently as possible within their communities.

During the tour, Ms Dodds met residents to hear about their experiences and the Orbit Supported Living team to understand residents’ needs.

She said: "It was great to visit Garden House and learn more about how Orbit supports residents there and in its other supported housing schemes.

"Supported housing is important for a wide range of people, including disabled people, people with mental health needs, those who have escaped domestic violence and who are rebuilding their lives after homelessness.

"I was particularly pleased to be able to speak with both staff and residents at Garden House, and I want to thank the former for all they do for our community."

Joe Brownless, chief customer officer at Orbit, added: "Everyone should have the opportunity to live as independently as possible, for as long as possible, in a home that meets their needs, which is why we were delighted to welcome Anneliese Dodds MP to Garden House."
