Police have revealed why the M40 was closed yesterday for almost two hours. 

Traffic was brought to a standstill on the M40 southbound near junction 11 for Banbury on Sunday, November 3. 

All three lanes were closed from 5.50pm with two reopening at 7.44pm.

Jacob Brown (Image: Contributed) Jacob Brown was one of the people stuck in the traffic and said he saw three fire engines, two fire support cars, four police cars and a removal vehicle. 

Thames Valley Police has now revealed why the carriageway was closed. 

They said: “This was a five-vehicle collision, but thankfully, nobody was seriously injured.

“It happened at just before 5.50pm and the motorway was blocked while emergency services were at the scene.

“The motorway fully re-opened at 7.44pm.”
