Cherwell District Council is looking to ensure everyone has a "suitable, secure, and affordable place to live" with its new housing strategy.
The council is asking for the public's views on the strategy, with a consultation running on its website until November 28, having opened on October 7.
The strategy outlines how the council plans to address local housing challenges, focusing on working with registered providers and private landlords to ensure they can provide "a well-managed and maintained" housing stock.
It also sets out the national and local context of how suitability, security, and affordability affects housing in Cherwell, and provides information showing challenges and potential opportunities.
Cherwell District Council currently has a small number of houses in which it operates as a landlord, but it wants to enable new affordable housing developments.
The new strategy prioritises delivering homes that are affordable and meet community needs, and improving existing properties to ensure they are "fit for the future".
The strategy also aims to promote health and wellbeing through housing, tackling homelessness and supporting the creation of sustainable communities.
The results of the consultation are expected to be released on December 12, the same day feedback is expected.
The council said: "We are asking your participation and opinion to help us identify the most pressing actions, good practice, and evidence of impact, as well as areas for development and improvement."
