Oxford's hospitality industry has joined more than 1,000 people across the country by taking part in a charity event which raised £135,000.

Walk for Wellbeing, now in its fifth year, was launched on World Mental Health Day, October 10, and aims to support the charity Hospitality Action.

It highlights the importance of mental health and wellbeing, while addressing financial worries and debt, which are cited as the leading causes of anxiety in the UK.

Individuals and teams from across the industry hosted 20km walks on Sunday, October 13, in nine UK cities, including Oxford.

Mark Lewis, CEO of Hospitality Action, said: "Walking 20km in one go is not to be underestimated, so the fact that so many signed up to this rapidly growing national movement is testament to the importance of giving back.

"But this incredible event goes way beyond that. It’s also about prioritising one’s own mental health and wellbeing whilst also feeling part of a supportive and united team where open dialogue is actively encouraged.

“Hospitality Action provides as much support as possible to our colleagues, but we can’t do it alone.

"By working and walking together, we will really make a lasting, positive difference.”

Since the start of they year, Hospitality Action, the trade charity for the hospitality industry, has recorded record numbers of helpline calls and grant applications.
