Author opens new library at Oxfordshire primary school

The ceremony on Wednesday, October 23, was attended by Jo Cotterill, who cut the ribbon and declared the library open.

Ms Cotterill, known for her books 'A Library of Lemons' and 'Electrigirl', is also the school's patron of reading.

Liv Walters, a Year 12 student from Carterton Community College, read from her favourite primary school book, 'Giraffes Can't Dance'.

Next term, Year 12 students from the college will take part in a peer reading programme with pupils from the primary school.

The new library was made possible by fundraising efforts from the Friends of Carterton Primary School, who raised money for new books.

The ceremony was attended by members of Friends of Carterton Primary School, colleagues from RAF Brize Norton, trustees from Ridgeway Education Trust, the trust's CEO, Rachael Warwick, and Kay Webb from the Farmington Institute.

The library project was led by Mrs Hill, Carterton Primary School's assistant headteacher.

The school said it is "very grateful to everyone who has supported this venture," which has been a "community effort".
