St John Ambulance has issued essential first aid advice for upcoming Halloween, Diwali, and Bonfire Night festivities.
With the excitement of fireworks and bonfires, there is always the risk of accidents and injuries.
Dr. Lynn Thomas, St John Ambulance’s medical director, said: "If you’re celebrating over the next couple of weeks for Halloween, Diwali and Bonfire Night by lighting candles, sparklers, fireworks or even bonfires—please enjoy yourself, but do so safely.
"Our volunteers will be out and about at events in your community, but it’s always worth brushing up on your fire-related first aid knowledge so you’re prepared just in case something does go wrong.
"Some simple first aid techniques, like knowing how to cool a burn or remove cinders from the eye, can make all the difference in helping you celebrate safely."
Dr. Thomas also advised to be considerate of neighbours as fireworks can upset not only pets but also people, especially those with mental health conditions.
The charity has shared crucial first aid tips for burns, debris in the eye, and smoke inhalation.
For instance, if someone has a burn, they should be moved away from the heat source and the burn should be placed under running water for at least 20 minutes.
