Proposals for a 20mph speed limit in an Oxfordshire village have been opened for public consultation.

The plan, put forward by Oxfordshire County Council, would see the majority of the existing 30mph limits in Wheatley replaced, following concerns about road safety raised by the parish.

Some roads, however, will maintain their current 30mph limits.

These include sections of London Road, the unnamed road known locally as Littleworth, the unnamed road leading from London Road to the coal depot, and Waterperry Road.

The council said its officers have taken the current road environments into account when making these decisions.

A public survey has been launched to gather views on the proposal, with responses welcome until 5pm on November 15.

The council said it will attempt to answer simple queries during the consultation, with more complex issues being addressed as part of the consultation process.

Should any objections be raised, a report will be prepared and presented to the county council's cabinet member for highway management at a public meeting later this year.

The agenda and reports for the meetings will be available on the Oxfordshire County Council website about a week before.

The new speed limit is part of a wider initiative to make built environments across the county "safer more attractive places to walk and cycle," promoting alternative transport for local journeys.
