The meteor shower from Halley’s Comet is set to be visible above Oxfordshire tonight.
Stargazers in the county have recently been treated to spectacular views of the Northern Lights throughout the month with sightings made across Oxford and beyond.
Now night owls can also stay up to see the spectacular meteor shower from Halley’s Comet which will be at its most visible tonight (Monday, October 21).
The Orionid meteor shower has been active from Wednesday, October 2 and will last until Thursday, November 7 but will be especially visible over UK skies tonight.

Orionids are often described as “extra special” as the meteors are pieces of Comet 1P/Halley, famously known as Halley's Comet.
For those wishing to witness the phenomenon in the skies, the best time to spot them is after midnight and into the early hours of Tuesday.
It is a “waiting game” regardless but some areas are more likely to be of a higher visibility than others across Oxfordshire.
“You want to find a safe location away from street lights and other sources of light pollution,” said a statement from Royal Museums Greenwich.

“The meteors can be seen in all parts of the sky, so it’s good to be in a wide open space where you can scan the night sky with your eyes.
“But if you trace the paths that the meteors take, they seem to originate from the constellation of Orion.”
