James May has taken a swipe at Jeremy Clarkson’s new Oxfordshire pub.

The pair have worked together along with Richard Hammond for 22 years on globally popular shows Top Gear and The Grand Tour.

Having worked together on the show and, before that, Top Gear for a combined 22 years, the gang called it a day with one final special.

Now one month later in a chat with The Telegraph, Mr May has spoken about the show as well as the pair’s business ventures away from one another.

The 61-year-old owns The Royal Oak pub in Swallowcliffe in Wiltshire, having originally bought the pub near his family home in 2014.

Mr Clarkson also joined the pub business by purchasing The Windmill in Asthall, near Burford for around £1,000,000.

Renaming the watering hole The Farmer’s Dog as a reference to his own pets and his Oxfordshire farm in Chadlington.

The new drinking spot has proved popular with thousands of tourists flocking to grab a pint of Hawkstone but Mr Clarkson has been vocal about the financial issues in running a pub.

Mr May responded to these problems that his former co-star was experiencing with a comment in his interview in The Telegraph.

“I just like being able to say I own a pub, even though it sounds a bit naff when a famous person off the telly says that sort of thing.”
