A jail sentence has been handed to Bicester man who threatened to upload sexual videos of his girlfriend onto TikTok.

Christopher Dwyer was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Wednesday (October 16) for one count each of stalking involving serious alarm and distress, controlling and coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship, threatening to share a photograph or film of a person in an intimate state, and three counts of criminal damage.

The 49-year-old cried as he was jailed for 24 months by Judge Hassan Khan, who commented: “These cases are very worrying and this in particular is a very worrying case.

“You seem incapable of letting go of you ex-partner and moving on with your own life.”

During sentencing, it was heard that Dwyer, of Ludlow Road, Bicester, had been in a relationship with the complainant, a woman who cannot be named for legal reasons, between January and July 2023 and again from April to June this year.

She described him being ‘jealous and controlling’ throughout their relationship and tried to stop her from leaving the house without him.

On some occasions, if she did leave the property, he would follow her in his car.

After they first split up, Dwyer threatened to share videos of the woman on TikTok which he had recorded without her consent.

He sent her text messages of snippets from the videos as well as photographs, writing: “Ok, TikTok it is.”

No photographs were uploaded and the pair rekindled their relationship.

However, in June after a series of arguments, Dwyer was recorded by the woman cutting up wisteria trees in her garden, smashing pots, and swearing whilst in the presence of children.

The defendant could be seen using a saw to cut the tree and shouting: “These are my things, you pathetic c***”.

A child could be heard crying in the background, saying: “Mummy, he’s cutting your trees.”

He caused £260 of damage before he was arrested and released on police bail. He breached bail conditions several times by contacting the woman and her family – on one occasion he followed her home from Tesco.

Defending Dwyer, barrister Peter De Feu said there were ‘two demons’ at play.

“One is jealousy,” he said. “The second is drink. This year, it’s clear that the alcohol overwhelmed him.”

He said he has since been clean whilst in custody and has completed several courses in prison.

The court heard he is keen to return to work as a bricklayer upon release.

Dwyer was also made subject to a 15-year restraining order.
