A jail sentence has been handed to a Bicester man who provided a teenage girl drugs before sexually assaulting her.

Stuart Crawford, of Market Way End, was found guilty after a trial at Oxford Crown Court in August of three counts – three counts of sexual activity with a child and offering to supply a Class A drug, namely cocaine.

The 42-year-old assaulted a 14-year-old girl on October 22, 2022, outside The Ashton Club in Sheep Street after she had asked if he had drugs.

Crawford admitted to being with the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in the early hours of the morning but denied sexually touching her or supplying her with cocaine.

He told the jury that he believed the girl was 18 years of age and that he did touch her but not in a sexual manner.

The incident was caught on CCTV and shown to the jury.

On Wednesday (October 16), Crawford was jailed for five and a half years by Judge Maria Lamb, who presided over the case.

During sentencing, it was heard that Crawford still denies the offence but states he feels sympathy towards the victim.

He told the probation service: “I think It would have a detrimental impact on her, all I can hope is that she goes on to live a normal life.”

A victim impact statement was also read out by the prosecution from the victim’s mother.

She wrote: “I cannot quantify the sheer trauma and aftermath of what he inflicted on my daughter.

“It’s physically vomit-inducing. I watched helplessly as my daughter became a shadow of herself.

"The thought that he took away my daughter’s innocence ate away at me like cancer.”

She explained that her daughter had been hospitalised due to drinking alcohol to cope with the incident.

Defencing Crawford, barrister Christopher Pembridge said that his client acknowledges he has ‘let himself down and his family down’.

“He doesn’t try to blame his intoxication,” he said. “There is insight there and remorse there. He is not ignorant to the fact he has been convicted of a serious offence.”

There were also three character references sent to the judge on Crawford’s behalf, describing him as a ‘much-loved family member’.

Alongside his custodial sentence, Crawford will be made subject to sex offenders requirement and his name will be added to the disclosure and barring service.

A restraining order for five years was also imposed as well as a victim surcharge requirement.

He will serve half of his sentence before being released on licence.
