A Bodicote man is set to run this weekend's Oxford Half Marathon while wearing a mask which will cut his oxygen intake in half.
Physiotherapist Dan Boyd is taking on the challenge to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Mr Boyd said the challenge is a "tribute" to his father, Ian, aged 70 and from Deddington, who died earlier this year from motor neurone disease and suffered from breathing difficulties due to the condition.
He said he will be "raising awareness" of the condition "alongside many other high profile names".
As well as the half marathon this weekend, Mr Boyd also has plans to run the Marathon De Sables while wearing the same 50 per cent oxygen restriction mask.
He said: "I do not believe this has been done before and it is quite gruelling."
Mr Boyd will also be donating £10 for every minute he goes past his personal best, having raised £2,190 so far.
He will be one of 13,000 runners taking part in the Oxford Half Marathon on Sunday, October 15.
The fast and flat course has become one of the most-popular half marathons in the UK, with large crowds providing support along the 13.1-mile route, and dozens of volunteers helping on the day.
The course takes runners through the winding streets of Oxford, beginning in the city centre and finishing on Parks Road.
