A Bicester woman is set to run the Oxford Half Marathon in support of the hospital which carried out surgery on her young daughter to treat a rare condition.

Shortly after Kayleigh James' nine-year-old daughter Ida was born, the team at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford discovered her left fibula was completely missing - a condition called fibular hemimelia.

This condition has meant numerous surgeries and treatments for Ida.

Ms James, 35, is now set to run the half marathon on Sunday, October 13, to support the Oxford Hospitals Charity.

Ida recently underwent her second leg lengthening, a procedure where her leg is gradually broken and stretched over months using an external frame.

She will require more surgeries as she grows, including an ankle reconstruction and further leg lengthening.

Ms James has raised £1,160 so far after setting a target of £1,000.

She added: "The strength and determination of this tiny human is just incredible.

"She never questions her abilities and pushes on with a fire in her belly, proving to the world that having no fibula really is not a problem.

"I am running the half marathon in her honour. I am sure that one day, it will be her running in this race, against all the odds."
