A new group has been formed in an Oxfordshire town to help people make friends.

Jamie Jessett, founder of Bicester Litter Pickers, started the group for people of different ages to connect with like-minded people in the Bicester community.

The group will meet twice a month at Torino Lounge on Sheep Street, with the first meet up taking place on Monday, October 21 from 7pm until 9pm.

The weeks will alternate between the 18-40 age group and the 40 plus age group.

"It’s important to have this up and running as many people struggle when it comes to making friendships," Mr Jessett told the Oxford Mail.

"Having this will make it easier for people.

"Knowing there’s others that are willing to support one another and have a laugh is highly needed, considering many people struggle with their mental health.

"By having these groups out there, it allows people to find people to do activities with."

The meet-ups will involve puzzles, mindfulness ideas, colouring books and more.

Speaking on why he decided to set the group up, Mr Jessett said: "I know many people as we get older it can be difficult to find friends to hangout with and even more difficult if you’ve got a disability.

"Many people feel they are alone when really they aren’t, the community is willing to support each other."

He added: "I know mental health is a big issue.

"I just would like to give people a place they can go and mingle with the community and laugh."
