Cherwell residents can now declutter their homes with free, doorstep collections of unwanted items.

Cherwell District Council has teamed up with Anglo Doorstep Collections to allow households to donate their items, with money being raised for mental health charity Oxfordshire Mind.

Items that are typically hard to recycle, such as clothing, shoes, books, CDs, DVDs, and children's toys in good condition, can be donated for reuse.

Councillor Ian Middleton, portfolio holder for neighbourhood services, said: "Items like clothing and footwear can be difficult to recycle at home due to the mixture and type of materials used to produce them.

"Each year, an estimated £140 million worth of clothing is sent to landfill, and a quick and easy way to reduce this is to give items a second life."

Residents can book a collection slot on the Anglo website. Once confirmed, items should be bagged or boxed and left on the doorstep on the chosen day.

Councillor Dr Chukwudi Okeke, chairman of the council, said: "We’re really pleased to be working with Anglo Doorstep Collections to give residents the opportunity to easily rehome unwanted items for free whilst also raising money for a worthy cause.

"Oxfordshire Mind is my nominated charity for this year, and I am pleased we are able to support an organisation that helps people prioritise their mental wellbeing and seek help without fear or hesitation."
