Two Oxford psychiatrists have been recognised for their expertise in their fields of medicine.
Dr Hasanen Al-Taiar and Shah Faisal Tarfarosh, who both work at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, have been shortlisted for the national Royal College of Psychiatry Awards, often referred to as the Oscars of the psychiatry world.
Dr Tarfarosh, a resident doctor with the City and North East Adult Mental Health Team in Oxford, is in the running for Higher Psychiatric Trainee of the Year.
He said he is "grateful" to have been shortlisted for the award, adding it was "a milestone made possible by the encouragement of mentors, the support of colleagues, and the daily inspiration I find in my patients".
He continued: “I’m committed to driving meaningful change in mental health care by continually enhancing my own emotional intelligence and supporting my colleagues in developing theirs further.”
Dr Al-Taiar, a consultant forensic psychiatrist at the Oxford Clinic with extensive experience in clinical practice, education, and leadership, is shortlisted for Psychiatric International Medical Graduate Champion of the Year.
He said: "Supporting international medical graduates has always been a passion of mine.
"My work with international medical graduates has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career, and I am committed to advocating for equal opportunities and providing the support they need to thrive in their medical journeys."
