Abingdon and Witney College has expanded its apprenticeship provision in a bid to meet local demand for electricians.

The college will now offer electrical installation and maintenance apprenticeships.

The new qualification will be taught at the college's Abingdon campus, and is designed to equip apprentices with essential skills in the two areas.

Apprentices on the programme will learn in the college’s new workshop area, which is equipped with all the latest industry-standard tools and materials.

The new course combines hands-on training with theoretical knowledge, providing apprentices with an understanding of electrical systems, safety protocols, best practice, and industry standards.

Working alongside experienced professionals, apprentices will gain real-world experience in the installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems.

Mr Gibbs said the demand for qualified electricians is high, especially as renewable energy systems like solar panels and electric vehicle charging points become more widespread.

He added: "This apprenticeship helps meet the growing need for skilled professionals in the electrical industry, preparing students for relevant, in-demand careers.

"Apprenticeships are an excellent route for those who prefer hands-on, practical learning. Students can earn while they learn, gaining real-world experience.
