An Oxford Londis store has been criticised by hygiene inspectors over its management of food safety.
The Londis shop on Marston Road in Oxford was visited by Oxford City Council’s Environmental Health team on Thursday, August 22, and given a one-out-of-five food hygiene rating.
With over 2200 members across the UK, all independently owned, the brand is the fastest-growing symbol group in the sector but inspectors were left unimpressed.
A major failing according to the inspector on the day was Londis’ management of food safety was also seen as requiring “major improvement” on the day of the inspection.

This refers to having a system or checks in place to ensure that the food sold or served is safe to eat and if there is evidence that staff know about food safety.
It also details whether or not the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
Despite this shortcoming, the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building were rated as “good”.
This refers to having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.

Similarly, Londis’ hygienic food handling was also seen as being “generally satisfactory” on the day of the inspection.
This section of criteria includes the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of the food served.
There are seven Londis stores dotted around the city.
