These warm-hearted pool players took part in an all-day – and all night – tournament to raise money for sick children.

They performed for 24 hours at Headington Labour Club in Oxford in 1988 and raised £500 for the children’s heart unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

The tournament was organised after one of the group, Paul Patrick, heard how the unit was helping a three-year-old boy from Barton.

He told the Oxford Mail: “His mother is a friend of my mum’s. He has had operations in London and is now going for treatment at the unit in Oxford.

“We heard they were short of money there so I thought it would be a good idea to have a pool match to raise some.”
