The brewery behind a country pub in an Oxfordshire town centre has spoken after a shocking food hygiene rating.
Fuller’s The Six Bells on High Street in Thame is a picturesque watering hole with a beautiful façade and is one of the town’s main pubs.
It is described by the team online as “the quintessential country pub in Thame” and features roaring fires, a garden, real ale on tap and pub food in the in-house restaurant.
But when visited by South Oxfordshire District Council’s Environmental Health team on Monday, August 19, inspectors were left far from impressed.

Stating that 'major improvement' was necessary, the pub was slapped with a one-out-of-five hygiene rating.
The brewery has now responded to this abysmal score and promised customers that issues have been dealt with since the inspection.
A spokesperson for Fuller, Smith & Turner said: “We pride ourselves on the high standards we maintain across our estate, so it is very disappointing to receive this score.
“We have already addressed the issues raised and we have asked for a revisit as soon as possible.”
One key issue that the report outlined was the management of food safety which in itself required 'major improvement'.

This refers to having a system or checks in place to ensure that the food sold or served is safe to eat as well as if there is evidence that staff know about food safety.
It also concerns whether or not the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
